The campaigns will be trying hard to get everyone who they think should vote for them to show up, and Trump is likely to be a big part of that.

The attempts started fast and furious. Both campaigns were quick to make appeals and statements after the verdict, even though they denounced the legitimacy of it immediately afterwards.

Biden has to make a decision. And right now, he’s slightly behind in the race. So the question isn’t really whether Biden will talk about the conviction, but whether he’s capable of delivering and capitalizing on it.

The latest NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll suggests most voters will not be swayed either way. It showed that some, including younger voters, might be moved at the margins, but this may be a reset moment in the campaign.

It’s a historic moment in American history. Many Americans will be tuning in now to learn about the conviction. The last thing Trump wanted was a headline saying he had been deported and was guilty of a crime. And barring an overturn on appeal before the election, that’s what will be attached to him as voters weigh their choices.

The president has avoided mentioning the legal troubles of Trump. It has been hard for the Biden campaign to get their message out despite the coverage of the trials being dominated by Trump.

Trump is the Chairman of the Republican National Committee. He has installed loyalists in state parties across the country and this has made him a stronger leader in the Republican Party than he was in 2016 when he defeated a convention coup attempt.

That is not happening. Republicans are lining up behind Trump, from the speaker of the House to the cadre of Trump allies auditioning to be his vice presidential running mate.

Michael Tyler, a Biden campaign spokesman, said in the statement that there was only one way to keep Trump out of the Oval Office.
