The 6 biggest announcements were made by Microsoft
Recall: A Tool for Recovering What You Have Learned in a Computer from a Conversation with a Personal Organizer
The new Surface Laptop was also announced, and it has the same software as the other ones. The device features a refreshed design with thinner bezels and a haptic touchpad. Microsoft says the device is more than 80 percent faster than its previous generation and offers up to 22 hours of local video playback.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed how Microsoft is “bringing the AI wave to PCs,” and that involves a new category of computers called Copilot Plus. These devices come with Arm-based chips, which will later be available from Intel and Advanced Micro Devices.
One of the major AI features available within Copilot Plus PCs is Recall. The new tool runs locally on your device and logs everything you do on your computer, allowing you to search for and retrieve the content you’ve interacted with. That makes it possible to uncover a conversation you’ve had in apps like Discord, or even a specific PowerPoint slide you were working on.
The New Surface Pro: An Efficient Platform for Windows App Developers to Embedding and Describe the Visual Context of their Applications
Microsoft’s new Surface Pro — sans model number — swaps out the last-gen’s Intel Core Ultra processor for Snapdragon X Elite and Plus chips from Qualcomm. It’s up to 90 percent faster than the previous Surface Pro, and it comes with the option for an OLED display panel for the first time.
The Surface Pro is available in four colors and has a starting price of over $1,000,000. It’s compatible with a new Surface Pro Flex Keyboard that works when attached or detached from the device.
By adding contextual information to their apps they will be able to improve the new recall feature on Windows. The integration helps users pick up where they left off in your app, improves app engagement, and users’ seamless flow between Windows and your app.
Developers will be able to use the Windows Copilot Library to integrate things like Studio Effects, filters, portrait blur, and other features into their apps. Windows Studios effects are being added to the platform so you’ll get features such as eye contact and background blur during video calls. Even Live Captions and the new AI-powered translation feature can be used by developers with little to no code.
“We will make this capability available for developers with Vector Embeddings API to build their own vector store and RAG within their applications and with their app data,” says Davuluri.
