Haley’s blow was dealt by the fact that none of these candidates took the Nevada Republican primary

“As the late great Harry Reid always reminded us, if you can win in Nevada you can win anywhere,” Harris cheered. “So Harry, President Biden and I are going to prove you right once again.”
Vice President Kamala Harris held her own rally about five minutes away that same night and paid homage to late Nevada Sen. Harry Reid, a Democrat and former Senate majority leader.
The messaging from the state Republican Party runs counter to efforts from the Republican National Committee, which is instead urging Republicans to vote early in 2024.
And there is an additional catch: Only the caucus awards delegates, which makes Trump the de facto winner — as the only viable candidate — before any votes are even cast.
The Nevada Republican Party pushed back against the 2021, so Republicans will have another chance to vote later this week. The caucus is to protest the state-run primary. The caucus participants cannot have their names in the ballot of the primary.
That’s when the state implemented new election laws that made it possible to vote by mail, move the presidential contests from caucuses to primaries and make voter registration easier.
The Nevada Democrat Caucus: What Will We Learn When President Biden Becomes a General Candidate in the November 2020 General Election?
30% of Nevada’s population identify as Latino. Asian American and Pacific Islanders make up the fastest-growing demographic in the state and they also have union support and voters who live in rural areas.
“In general, Las Vegas has been very transient, and so oftentimes we have to establish those connections for the first time,” said Fabian Doñate, the Latino Legislative Caucus chair. Our population is very diverse, and so we are the first in the West.
Democrats and Republicans are racing to close the margins in November. President Biden won the state in 2020 by under 3% of the vote. Democrats on the ground will use the results to see how they focus efforts to court voters.
Nevada is one of six swing states that will get outsized attention in the general election and is the first swing state to vote early, making it a testing ground for the candidates, even if the races aren’t that competitive on paper.
Trump will be back in Las Vegas on Thursday for a caucus result watch party — though he is already expected to win because he is the only viable candidate in the caucus.
According to an NPR analysis, Haley’s campaign did not spend any money on advertising in Nevada. She has turned her attention to her home state of South Carolina, where voters will go to the polls at the end of the month.
Instead, the former South Carolina governor will have to spin a loss in a primary where she was the only major candidate on the ballot. Nevada voters have a “none of these candidates” option on their primary ballots which received the highest percentage of votes.
According to the race call by the Associated Press, voters turned to “none of the above” when they voted for Haley in the Nevada primary.
