Volkswagen says it is putting a money making device in its cars
The Volkswagen Experience at OpenAI, Openai at GPT, and Other Large-Language Model (LLM) Chatbots
We knew that artificial intelligence would be an important feature this year, so it was not surprising that Volkswagen presented the first car with the IDA voice assistant. Clearly, the German auto manufacturer has no issues with the Sam Altman-based shenanigans that have taken place at OpenAI recently, and doubtless other car manufacturers will announce similar LLM-integrated offerings this week.
These questions might be more natural and less prone to false positives in the future. ChatGPT and other large-language model (LLM) chatbots have been known to serve up false information and OpenAI is being targeted in a number of defamation and copyright infringement lawsuits. Mercedes isn’t saying which company is updating its voice assistant.
Most vehicle voice assistants are pretty rote, able to do things like turn on seat heaters or window defrosters — but lack conversational skills and typically fall short of more complex navigational requests. False positives and the need to repeat instructions are not uncommon. There are third-party developers like Google and Amazon who provide options for cars.
Last year Openai said that it would be releasing a platform for making custom versions ofChatGPT. The company’s GPT store will be where the GPT agents will be accessible.
Mercedes-Benz MBUX Voice Assistant System Gets an AI Boost: A Conversation Conversation with a Family Of High-Performance Neural AI Systems
Mercedes vehicles already have voice-command capabilities, allowing drivers to use the phrase, “Hey, Mercedes,” followed by a short command to do things like adjust the temperature in the vehicle, find a navigation destination, or place a phone call.
The voice assistant’s speech will rely on an LLM for natural dialogue and answers to customer questions. Four of the four personality trait will be natural, emotional, personal, and empathetic. The company claims the effect is like a conversation with a friend. The assistant answers questions based on knowledge, and can also ask intelligent questions to clarify intent.
Among its many suppliers, Mercedes relies on Nvidia for its water-cooled chips to power its MB.OS system. The San Jose-based company has been developing high-powered GPUs and auto-grade systems-on-a-chip for a number of car clients, enabling features such as advanced driver assist, in-car graphics, and AI.
Mercedes-Benz spokesperson Cathleen Decker declined to name the specific company that was supplying its generative AI technology. “The company works with a range of technology partners to develop and implement the latest advancements in artificial intelligence and natural language processing,” she said in an email. “Mercedes-Benz is committed to working with the best partners in the industry to ensure that the MBUX system remains at the forefront of automotive technology.”

Keeping a Track of Traffic, Paths and Environments: A New Tool for Generating Intelligent Road Directions for Autonomers
There are high levels of in-car distraction. But rather than try to limit the amount of technology being crammed into cars, automakers are increasingly turning to more high-tech fixes to encourage drivers to stay focused on the road.
For instance, it shows the type of traffic, be it another car, van, truck or even a cyclist. It shows pedestrians close to the roadside as well as potential hazards. And it superimposes route guidance into a realistic representation of the surroundings – particularly helpful in busy urban environments.
