Openai is Ready, Go, and OpenAI is Going Where: The Multi-task Language Understanding Benchmark of Google’s OpenAI Platform is Going
Due to concern about the potential threat that new developments from OpenAI and other could pose togoogles future, the company has developed and launched a new project with fast development and launch times.
Let’s ask an important question, shall we? Openai has a GPT-4 that is ready, go. This has very clearly been on Google’s mind for a while. Hassabis says that they have done a thorough analysis of the systems side by side. The Multi- task Language Understanding Benchmark is a well-established benchmark that compares the ability to generate python code between the two models. “I think we’re substantially ahead on 30 out of 32” of those benchmarks, Hassabis says, with a bit of a smile on his face. “Some of them are very narrow. Some of them are larger.”
Right now, Gemini’s most basic models are text in and text out, but more powerful models like Gemini Ultra can work with images, video, and audio. Hassabis says it is going to get even more general. “There’s still things like action, and touch — more like robotics-type things.” Over time, he says, Gemini will get more senses, become more aware, and become more accurate and grounded in the process. “These models just sort of understand better about the world around them.” These models still hallucinate, of course, and they still have biases and other problems. But the more they know, Hassabis says, the better they’ll get.
Benchmarks are just benchmarks, though, and ultimately, the true test of Gemini’s capability will come from everyday users who want to use it to brainstorm ideas, look up information, write code, and much more. Google seems to see coding in particular as a killer app for Gemini; it uses a new code-generating system called AlphaCode 2 that it says performs better than 85 percent of coding competition participants, up from 50 percent for the original AlphaCode. Users will see an improvement in everything the model touches, according to Pichai.
Demis Hassabis has never been shy about proclaiming big leaps in artificial intelligence. Most notably, he became famous in 2016 after a bot called AlphaGo taught itself to play the complex and subtle board game Go with superhuman skill and ingenuity.

“Until now, most models have sort of approximated multimodality by training separate modules and then stitching them together,” Hassabis says, in what appeared to be a veiled reference to OpenAI’s technology. You can’t have this sort of reasoning in a multi-space environment.
OpenAI launched an upgrade to ChatGPT in September that gave the chatbot the ability to take images and audio as input in addition to text. OpenAI has not disclosed technical details about how GPT-4 does this or the technical basis of its multimodal capabilities.

Remember that all of this is technically an experiment for now and you might see some software glitches in your chatbot responses. Bard’s integration with other services is one of its strengths. Tag @Gmail in your prompt, for example, to have the chatbot summarize your daily messages or tag @YouTube to explore topics with videos. There are still many things that need to be worked out, but the Bard has shown potential in previous tests.

So how is the anticipated Gemini Ultra different from the currently available Gemini Pro model? Ultra is a mode which is designed to handle complex tasks across text, images, audio, video, and code.
