Hamas, Putin, and Israel: A Crucial Part of the Evil That Is: the War between Israel and the Palestinians, and Ukraine and Russia
President Biden delivered remarks from the Oval Office on Thursday on the wars between Israel and Hamas, and Ukraine and Russia. The transcript of his remarks is available at The New York Times.
We are at an important point in history. One of those moments where the decisions we make today are going to determine the future for decades to come. That’s what I’d like to talk with you about tonight.
The United Nations will send the first shipment of aid to the Palestinians in Gaza after securing a deal with leaders of Israel and Egypt. If Hamas does not divert or steal this shipment, these shipments, we’re going to provide an opening for sustained delivery of lifesaving humanitarian assistance for the Palestinians.
The terrorist group Hamas unleashed pure unadulterated evil in the world, but sadly, the Jewish people know, perhaps better than anyone, that there is no limit to the depravity of people when they want to inflict pain on others.
Like so many others, I’m heartbroken by the tragic loss of Palestinian life, including the explosion at the hospital in Gaza, which was not done by the Israelis. We mourn all the lives that have been lost. We can’t ignore the humanity of innocent Palestinians who only want to live in peace and have an opportunity.
You know, the assault on Israel echoes nearly 20 months of war, tragedy and brutality inflicted on the people of Ukraine, people that were very badly hurt since Putin launched his all-out invasion.
Thousands and thousands of Ukrainian children were taken into Russia and thousands of bodies were found in mass graves with signs of torture.
Hamas and Putin represent different threats, but they share this in common. They both want to completely annihilate a neighboring democracy — completely annihilate it. Hamas’ stated purpose for existing is the destruction of the state of Israel and the murder of Jewish people. Hamas is not an association with the Palestinian people. Palestinian families are suffering a great deal because Hamas uses them as human shields.
So if we don’t stop Putin’s appetite for power and control in Ukraine, he won’t limit himself just to Ukraine. He is. Putin warned Poland that their land was a gift from Russia. One of his top advisers, a former president of Russia, has called Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania Russia’s Baltic provinces.
I will send to congress an urgent budget request to support America’s national security needs in order to support our crucial partners, including Israel. It’s a smart investment that’s going pay dividends for American security for generations, help us keep American troops out of harm’s way, help us build a world that is safer, more peaceful and more prosperous for our children and grandchildren.
You know, history has taught us that when terrorists don’t pay a price for their terror, when dictators don’t pay a price for their aggression, they cause more chaos and death and more destruction. They keep going. And the cost and the threats to America and the world keep rising.
The United States, the Middle East and the West are NATO Allies. Why We Care about Israel-Hamas and Russia-Ukraine Wars
All of these are NATO allies. NATO kept peace in Europe for 75 years. And has been the cornerstone of American security. And if Putin attacks a NATO ally, we will defend every inch of NATO, which a treaty requires and calls for.
We won’t have something that we want. We do not desire to have American troops fighting in Russia and fighting against Russia.
Beyond Europe, we know that our allies, and maybe most importantly our adversaries and competitors, are watching. They’re watching our response in Ukraine as well. The world would be better off if we allowed Putin to wipe out Ukraine’s independence. The Middle East and the Pacific region are prone to conflict and chaos. Iran supports terrorist groups in the region, including Hamas, and it supports Russia in Ukraine. And we’ll continue to hold them accountable, I might add.

The Security Package for the Middle East: Calling on Israel and Israel-Hamas and Russia-Ukraine Wars to Address Antisemitism and Islamophobia
The United States and our partners across the region are working to build a better future for the Middle East. I announced at this year’s summit of world’s biggest economies that the Middle East is going to be more stable, better connected to its neighbors, and through innovative projects like the India, Middle East and Europe rail corridor. It works for the people. It would benefit the people in the Middle East and we would benefit from it.
In Israel, we must make sure that they have what they need to protect their people today and always. I’m sending the security package to Congress in order to give them an unprecedented commitment to Israel’s security that will make them more competitive in the world. We are going to make sure Iron Dome continues to guard the skies over Israel. We are going to make sure hostile actors know that Israel is strong and will prevent the conflict from spreading.
We must be honest with ourselves here at home. There has been a rise in antisemitism, Islamic-phobia and racism in recent years because of too much hate.
We can’t stand by and stand silent when this happens. We need to condemn antisemitism without equivocation. Without equivocation, we need to condemn Islamophobia.

Israel is Great: Do We See Who We Are and What We Are Trying to Tell Israel (Is Israel Hamas And Russia–Ukraine Wars)?
And to all you hurting, those of you who are hurting, I want you to know I see you. You belong. I want you to know that you are all part of America. You are all part of America.
This is a moment when fear, suspicion, anger, and rage can run too hard and we need to work harder than ever to hold onto our values. We are a nation of religious freedom. We all have a right to debate and disagree, without fear of being targeted in schools or workplaces or in our communities.
When I was in Israel yesterday, I said that when America experienced the hell of 9/11, we felt enraged as well, and while we sought and got justice, we made mistakes. So I caution the government of Israel not to be blinded by rage.
Let’s remember who we are here in America. We do not accept any forms of hate, even against Muslims, Jews, or anyone. That’s what great nations do. We are a country that is great.

The Battle of Kyiv, Ukraine with President Zelensky: America as a Propagator of Freedom, Freedom and Self-determination
I have asked the Congress to make sure we can keep sending the weapons to Ukraine so they can fight back against Putin.
The people are succeeding. When Putin invaded Ukraine, he thought he would take Kyiv and all of Ukraine in a matter of days. Putin has failed over the course of a year.
Kyiv still stands because the bravery of the Ukrainian people. Ukraine has regained more than 50 percent of the territory Russian troops once occupied. Backed by U.S.-led coalition of more than 50 countries around the world, all doing its part to support Kyiv.
I have said from the beginning that I won’t send American troops to fight. All Ukraine is asking for is help, for the weapons, munitions, the capacity, the capability to push invading Russian forces off their land. And the air defense systems to shoot down Russian missiles before they destroy Ukrainian cities.
We send Ukraine equipment sitting in our stockpiles. And when we use the money allocated by Congress, we use it to replenish our own stores, our own stockpiles, with new equipment. America makes equipment that defends it. The missiles for the air defense batteries were made in Arizona. In Pennsylvania, Ohio and Texas were the places where the shells were manufactured. And so much more.
I boarded Air Force One for a secret flight to Poland in the middle of the year. The train I boarded was blacked-out and I rode it for 10 hours each way to join the people of Ukraine in their fight against Putin. I was told that I was the first American to enter a war zone not under the authority of the United States military.
A few security personnel and a few advisers were with me. But when I exited that train and met Zelensky, President Zelensky, I didn’t feel alone. I was bringing with me the idea of America, the promise of America, to the people who are today fighting for the same things we fought for 250 years ago: freedom, independence, self-determination. And as I walked through Kyiv with President Zelensky, with air raid sirens sounding in the distance, I felt something I’ve always believed more strongly than ever before: America is a beacon to the world, still, still.
There are many people who hope because of us. We are to blame for a better life. Who are desperately trying not to be forgotten. And who are waiting for us.
I know we have our divisions at home. We have to get past them. We can’t let petty, partisan, angry politics get in the way of our responsibilities as a great nation. We cannot and will not allow terrorists like Hamas and Putin to win. I refuse to let that happen.
In moments like these, we have to remind — we have to remember who we are. The United States of America is where we are. The United States of America. If we do it together, there is nothing beyond our capacity.
President Biden told Americans in a rare Oval Office address on Thursday that it was in the national interest of Americans to back democracies that found themselves under attack.
The White House is asking for almost $106 billion for Israel, Ukraine and the border: State of the art and state of the situation in the U.S.
His budget office put a price tag on that, asking for $106 billion in funding for Israel, Ukraine, and operations on the southern U.S. border.
The fate of the request rests in the hands of Congress, where the Republican-led House of Representatives is currently without a speaker — making it impossible or at least extremely difficult for any funding package to move forward.
Senator Dan Sullivan told NPR that linking the priorities could be a strategy to pass the package. He said that sometimes things happen in the Congress where you do not agree with everything, but if you agree with a lot of it, then it can broaden the support.
Most of the money Biden asked for will be devoted to military aid. The request is planned to last through September. Military support for the U.S. troops in Europe, as well as economic support for Ukraine’s government are included.
In Tel Aviv, Biden promised an “unprecedented” package of aid to support Israel after the Hamas attacks of Oct. 7. Funding for air and missile defense, military financing, and embassy support are included in the request.
This includes support for Israel, Gaza and Ukraine. The breakdown of this funding is “flexible,” White House budget director Shalanda Young told reporters, depending on where the need is greatest.
This will provide support to “multiple countries” in the region, national security adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters. A breakdown was not immediately available.
Reply to Comments on Surprising Taiwan” by E.D. McConnell and Y.J. Bejing at the U.S. Border”
McConnell and other Republicans want to make sure that Taiwan can deter Bejing from attacking the island which they claim is their own territory. Materials given to the reporters did not mention Taiwan at all.
The World Bank requested $2 billion and the US requested $700 million to build attack submarines.
The White House did not get $4 billion to help deal with Fentanyl and migrants at the southern U.S. border. This new request is broader and includes money for detention facilities, border agents, asylum officers, and state and local governments struggling to provide services to migrants.
