The new midrange standard was the topic of the Pixel 7A review
Dual-Sensor, High-Resolution, 13-Momentum Camera and Wireless Charging in the 7A Budget Pixel
A camera that matched the quality of the higher-end models was usually the highlight of the A-series phone. The 5A camera was retained in favor of using the same TensorProcessor as the one used in the 6 and 6 Pro. Now, the 7A gets the best of both worlds by using the same Google Tensor G2 chip found in the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro and pairing it with a new 64-megapixel main camera and 13-megapixel ultrawide. The main camera on the Pixel 7 has more resolution than the one on the main camera.
The primary rear camera is moving away from the tried-and-true 12-megapixel sensor that the A-series has used for so long in favor of a newer 64MP module. Google says the sensor is 72 percent larger than what was in the 6A and can capture 44 percent more light. Real Tone, Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, etc., are some of the signature features of the 7A, as well as long-exposure motion effects first seen on the 7 and 7 Pro. Night Sight is now twice as fast as it was on the 6A.
The 7A is the first budget Pixel to support wireless charging and can juice up at 7.5 watts when placed on a Pixel Stand or compatible Qi charger. You can only charge using the included cable.
Gorilla Glass 7a: A Lightweight, Resistant, Efficient, and Low-Luminosity High Refresh Rate Phone
The phone’s frame is made of recycled aluminum, and the back is a plastic composite that by no means feels cheap. It’s also less likely that you’ll break the glass if you drop the phone. The product used to make the front is several years old, which isn’t as scratch- and crack- resistant as a newer product from the company that creates the hardened glass. One way to bring down the price of a phone is by using older Gorilla Glass. Safe to say, even if the back can’t crack as easily, it’s worth getting a case. Dropping in the pool won’t destroy it, because it’s been tested for water and dust resistance.
Even though I was walking in Austin and it was 94-degree heat and there was a disgusting amount of humidity, the 6.1-inch screen was not showing any weaknesses. Is it brighter than the A54 5G, the closest competitor? No, It was easy to read the display. You’re treated to a 90-Hz refresh rate as well, which means everything from playing games to scrolling Instagram feels more fluid, as the screen is outputting more frames per second than traditional 60-Hz screens. It’s a nice perk.

The Pixel Fold: An Ultra-Premium Screen Unfoldable Tablet-Size Display on a Pixel 7A and the Pixel 8 Prototype
Google has long had a lackluster in-display fingerprint sensor, and unfortunately the Pixel 7A follows that same path. On my first day of use, I had to put my thumb on the sensor a few times for it to unlock. It got much better but I still needed to be more conscious of my finger placement than I was on other phones. It is not a great sensor.
The first non-slab phone from Google is going to be a stab at theultra-premium market. The Pixel Fold is a phone with a screen that can be unfolded from a phone-size screen to reveal a tablet-size display inside.
