The Max streamer has renewed life to the ‘Harry Potter’ and’Game of thrones’ franchise
A TV Series in the Game of Thrones Franchise: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Unit from Max Radcliffe and the Restless Duncan the Tall
For those who are eager to soar back into the wizarding world of ‘Harry Potter,’ buckle up because the franchise is coming to Max in the form of a scripted television series. (CNN and Max are both part of the same parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery.)
The television series will feature a cast of fresh new faces to take on the roles made famous in the “Potter” films by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.
The series is expected to run for 10 years and will be authentic to the original books and movies in order to bring Harry Potter to new audiences around the world.
Max will launch a second series in the Game of thrones universe called, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Unit” from author George R.R. Martin.
The prequel is set a century before the events of the original “Game of Thrones,” which ran from 2011 to 2019, and will center on the wanderings of “two unlikely heroes,” Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg, according to a news release.
“Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends,” the release said.
“Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, as I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will Allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series,” according to the press release announcing the show.
The first book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, was published in 1997, and the final book was published in 2007. Each book was a bestseller.
The books were adapted into eight films, with the first released in 2001 and the last released in 2011, raking in $7.7 billion at the box office globally. The films “will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally,” Max assured fans.
There is a related “Fantastic Beasts” movie franchise, the Harry Potter and the Cursed child play, theme parks, and countless toys and games.
Fans reacted strongly to the news that a TV series was being made, and many took to social media to complain about the decision and the involvement of the author. In recent years there has been a lot of controversy related to the opinions of the author.
