It is possible to prove where you work with a free verified badge
Verifying Your Identity and Current Employer through the Entra Verified ID Credential, an online verification platform Microsoft is rolling out to users in professional social media
The professional social media platform announced a new set of verification features that will allow users to verify their identities and job histories. Users will now have different options to verify their identity and current jobs. There are differences between the verified and illegitimate account if someone attempts to make a copycat account.
“Authenticity online has never been more important,” says Alex Weinert, vice president of identity security at Microsoft, in an interview with The Verge. There has been a steady increase in fraudulent presentations with people pretending to be different types of people. You want to know that if you interact with someone who says they are an employee of a certain company or represent a certain company that you have confidence in who they say they are. The need for that is pretty clear.”
The system is backed by a decentralized identity and a trust model that involves an issuer, a holder, and a verifier. Employees can use the digital IDs that organizations can issue to prove they are employed in order to get basic discounts or even get approved for a loan. Microsoft wants to push this system to other places where verification and trust are needed.
Joy Chik is the president of identity and network access at Microsoft. Verified ID credentials can help increase trust, authenticity and verifiability while decreasing cost and time.
The third verification feature allows users to confirm their name and current employer through the Microsoft Entra Verified ID credential, a workplace identification platform Microsoft launched last year. This option will have a slower rollout, and it will be available at the end of the month to employees at a few dozen pilot companies that are already enrolled in Entra.
“Through all these new, free features, we’re helping give you the confidence that who you’re connecting with and the content you come across is trusted and authentic,” Oscar Rodriguez, LinkedIn’s vice president of product management, wrote in a blog post today.
